MILWAUKEE (April 5, 2021) – Vanguard is proud to be one of the few companies to offer customers the option to convert their engines to function with propane.

To do this, Briggs & Stratton has partnered with Propane Power Systems, LLC who developed EPA and CARB-certified conversion kits for select Vanguard and Briggs & Stratton® Commercial Series engines. The OEM-approved propane conversion kit can be purchased from Propane Power Systems allowing OEM customers or dealers to easily convert Vanguard powered equipment from gasoline to propane fuel.

Briggs & Stratton says its Commercial Power engines are now available for propane conversion through Propane Power Systems. The conversions are EPA-certified and are available for 11 Vanguard and Commercial Series engines, ranging in displacement from 205cc single-cylinder horizontals up to 993cc Big Block V-Twin engines.

“The propane trend is growing in many commercial markets, especially in landscape and light-construction,” said Jim Cross, Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power marketing manager. “Propane Power Systems’ development of conversion kits for our Vanguard and Commercial Series engines provides OEMs a wide array of certified solutions for their customers who want propane.”

Great Smoky Mountains National Park held two ribbon-cutting ceremonies to unveil over 10 new pieces of alternative fuel equipment. The events were held at Oconaluftee Visitor Center near Cherokee, N.C. and Sugarlands Visitor Center near Gatlinburg, Tenn. on September 30, 2015.With the new pieces of alternative fuel equipment, the Smokies implemented three new facets of the park’s Climate Friendly Parks program through funding from a joint U.S. Departments of Interior (DOI) and Energy (DOE) initiative called the “Clean Cities National Park Initiative.” The new equipment helps the park leave a smaller carbon footprint and allows the public to join in the effort.

Inside every propane cylinder is the power to win more bids. By increasing productivity, cutting fuel costs, and reducing spills and pilferage — you will have what you need to stand out against the competition. No wonder more businesses are switching to this clean, American fuel to improve both sides of the balance sheet.

Both propane and small combustion engines were introduced into the U.S. market in the early 1900s. Walter Snelling is credited for introducing propane as a significant fuel source, and Stephen Briggs and Harold Stratton laid the foundation for small combustion engines with the Model F engine, the first overhead valve engine.

What do they have in common?

More than you would think.
